Bahia Cabana Beating Caught On Camera
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A vicious attack at a popular Ft. Lauderdale resort and marina was caught on camera.
Now police are asking for the public's help so they can arrest the man responsible.
It happened on April 15th at the Bahia Cabana Beach Resort & Marina.
Thirty nine year old Robert Werner of Pompano Beach was sitting outside with friends at an umbrella covered table relaxing when he overheard two men at another table trying to draw him into the conversation. He said he tried to avoid them.
"They were talking tough guy talk, as if they were the Sopranos," recalled Werner as CBS 4 News spoke to him via Skype, while he is in New York for medical treatment. "The guy to my right said something and I said 'I'd prefer to stay out of your conversation.' Before I knew it I remember opening my eyes and thinking, 'what the heck just happened?'"
Surveillance camera video captured one of the 'tough guys' get up, walk over to Werner and pummel him with his fists.
"It's like fist of fury. The guy comes in and within a matter of seconds is able to knock out two of the victim's front teeth as well as cause a laceration requiring stitches on his face," said Detective Travis Mandell of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department
The man responsible is described as being approximately 6' 1", 220 pounds and possibly in his 20s. He was last seen wearing a blue tank-top jersey with tan shorts and a white baseball hat.
"This is a brutal attack and we will not tolerate this type of caveman like machismo in our community and we're hoping someone out there won't tolerate it either and will come forward with his identity," said Detective Mandell.
When found and arrested, he'll be charged with felony aggravated battery charge.
Anyone with information regarding the man is urged to contact Detective Justin Moody at (954) 828-4018 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
