Baby Found Alone In Motel Room, Grandma Granted Custody

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Miami mother has been charged with child neglect and her nearly year old son has been placed into the custody of his grandmother after police said the boy was left alone for hours in a motel room.

Marline Mieses, 23, was taken into custody Saturday and charged with one count of child neglect. During a bond court hearing Monday, a judge set bail at $5,000. In family court, after granting temporary custody of the child to his grandmother the judge said Mieses should be present at the next hearing on Friday.

According to the police arrest affidavit, Mieses, left her 11-month old son, Ismael in a room at the Seven Seas Motel, located at 5940 Biscayne Boulevard, for several hours.

A housekeeper at the motel called police after she found the baby in the room all alone. The baby was in a playpen with blankets and a bottle of milk, according to the police report.

About two and a half hours later, Mieses returned to the motel where police were waiting for her. Police said she told detectives she left the motel around 11:00 a.m. and went to several stores in North Miami in an attempt to sell her food stamps. She said she didn't want to take the baby with her because it was raining and she didn't want him to get wet.
