Another Horse Found Slaughtered In SW Dade

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — For the second time in as many days, a horse has been found slaughtered in southwest Miami-Dade.

The South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SFSPCA) posted on their Twitter account Monday that the remains of a horse were were found in the area of SW 192nd Avenue just south of 136th Street.

On Sunday, a Miami-Dade Agricultural Patrol discovered the carcass of a brutally slaughtered horse at SW 187th Avenue and SW 180th Street.

It's not clear who, if anyone, owned either of the horses.

"It's happening all too often here in Miami-Dade County," said Kathleen Monahan, president of SFSPCA. "There is a demand for horse meat for human consumption among those who believe it has medicinal and/or magical qualities."

In reality, the meat is toxic due to the vaccinations and regular medications that horses are given, many of which are known to cause cancer in humans.
