Accused Wrong Way Wreck Driver To Plead Guilty

MIAMI (CBSMiami) –  A girl accused of causing a deadly wrong way wreck on the Sawgrass Expressway is expected to plead guilty Wednesday morning.

Kayla Mendoza is expected to plead guilty to two counts of DUI manslaughter.

Mendoza's attorney confirmed to CBS4 News that Mendoza will make an open plea to the judge and will be sentenced at a later date.

Mendoza could receive as much as 30 years in prison but her attorney said he plans to ask for significantly less time than that.

Mendoza is accused of driving drunk and the wrong way on the Sawgrass Expressway in November 2013 killing Kaitlyn Ferrante and Marisa Catronio.

Investigators said Mendoza's blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit at the time of the crash.
