Two women and a one-year-old boy were killed following a multi-car crash on the 60 Freeway in Pomona, allegedly caused by a wrong-way driver.

It happened just after 11 p.m. on Saturday on the westbound lanes of SR-60 near Reservoir Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators say that a wrong-way driver since identified as 24-year-old Pomona man Rick Rodriguez was allegedly traveling east in the westbound lanes behind the wheel of a 2013 Honda Accord when he collided head-on with a 2018 Honda Civic.

"The impact caused Rodriguez's Accord to spin out of control, striking a second vehicle," the CHP release said.

The driver of the Civic and a passenger, only identified as a 29-year-old and a 39-year-old woman from Huntington Park , died in the crash, police said.

"A one-year-old child in the Civic suffered major injuries and was transported to Children's Hospital of Orange County," police said.

On Tuesday, police disclosed that the child had succumbed to their injuries in the early morning.

The driver of the third involved car, 47-year-old Commerce woman Veronica Segura, was also hospitalized with minor injuries.

"Rodriguez was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs," CHP said. "Due to the extent of his injuries, he was released to the hospital for medical treatment."

Rodriguez died later Monday from injuries suffered in the crash, police said.

The SigAlert was lifted just after 4 a.m., officers noted.

Anyone who knows more is urged to contact CHP investigators at (626) 517-8500 as they continued to investigate the crash.
