Suspect arrested for Santa Monica stabbing that left 2 hospitalized; police still searching for second attacker

Police announced an arrest in connection with a stabbing in Santa Monica that left two people hospitalized over the weekend. 

It happened on Saturday at around 2:30 a.m. near the 1700 block of Ocean Front Walk, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. They say that a man and woman were walking in the area when they were approached by two male suspects. 

Circumstances leading up to the attack remain unclear, but police say that the male victim, a Northridge resident, sustained multiple stab wounds to the upper body and was rushed to a nearby hospital where they were in critical but stable condition as of Monday. 

The female victim, also from Northridge, also suffered multiple stab wounds. She was similarly taken to the hospital but has since been released, police said.

"Witnesses reported that suspects fled the scene on foot, traveling southbound after the stabbing," said SMPD's press release. 

Investigators were able to quickly identify the two suspects, one of whom was arrested on Monday. He has been identified as 20-year-old San Gabriel resident Ivan Angel Plancarte. He was charged with attempted murder. 

They are still searching for the second assailant, who is described as a male with a thin build. He was wearing a grey sweater and a blue bandana or face mask, police said.
