Small Dog Freed From Engine Compartment By El Monte Police Officer

EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — A small dog is free Tuesday to run about after an El Monte police officer freed it from a hot engine compartment.

The dog, named Cookie, apparently escaped its yard near Magnolia and Mt. View Road Monday at about 7:47 a.m. and ran into the street, where it was nearly struck by a passing car, El Monte police Lt. Christopher Cano said.

Cookie's owner flagged down Officer Aldair Figueroa, who worked for 25 minutes and braved a few bites before finally freeing the dog.

The dog appeared to only have a minor cut to her lip area.
