Shots were fired during a pursuit involving Claremont police on Thursday night.

Claremont Police Department officers say that they were called to Claremont Hills Wilderness Park, located in the 4000 block of Miss Avenue, at around 7:40 p.m. after hearing that a man was shooting at a drone in the area, according to a press release from the department.

Officers, attempted to stop the car near Mills Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, but instead of stopping, the suspect allegedly fired shots towards the officers and sped off, according to the Claremont Police Department.

Police did not say if they returned fire.

The chase continued through Claremont, Pomona, La Verne and Montclair for about 20 miles until an officer used a PIT maneuver to disabled the suspect's vehicle.

He collided with the center divider of the 10 Freeway, which caused the truck to lose a tire.

At some point, police say that the man threw the handgun out of the truck's window. They found it on eastbound lanes of the 10 Freeway east of the Indian Hill onramp near where the driver stopped the vehicle.

The suspect was taken into custody after attempting to run away on foot. He has been identified as 46-year-old Daniel Rombach of Claremont. He was booked on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer, assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading and unlawful possession of a firearm. He remains behind bars on $2 million bail.
