Ruptured Pipeline Sends Oil Onto Ventura Beach
VENTURA (CBS/AP) — A ruptured oil pipeline has sent crude onto a Ventura County beach Tuesday.
County fire officials say a minor landslide caused a break in a small pipeline in the Vintage Productions hillside oil fields between Faria Beach and Seacliff, about 10 miles northwest of Ventura.
Officials say a barrel of oil, or 55 gallons, was spilled and a portion of it flowed into a hillside ravine and made its way to the sand and the Pacific Ocean.
Besides Ventura city and county firefighter hazardous materials squads, a Coast Guard boat and officials from the county Environmental Health Division and state Department of Fish and Game responded to the scene.
Crews have capped the leak.
