Riverside County man charged with attempted murder for drive-by shooting that wounded one
A Riverside County man was charged on Friday for attempted murder after a drive-by shooting in downtown Riverside's Entertainment District that happened last weekend.
Hector Alfonso Sanchez Torres, a 26-year-old Home Gardens man, was arrested on Sunday, April 1 after Riverside Police Department investigators determined he was connected to the shooting that happened earlier that day.
He has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, firing a gun from a moving vehicle and sentence-enhancing allegation gun and great bodily injury allegations.
Police say that early Sunday morning, Torres was involved in a conflict with the two victims, both adult males. They were only identified as "E.F." and "E.R." in court documents.
After the conflict, which happened at the intersection of University Avenue and Main Street, Torres got into his car and drove back to the spot where the altercation occurred.
"The suspect drove along University ... and shot at the victims before fleeing," said a statement from RPD Public Information Officer Ryan Railsback.
One of the victims was struck in the leg and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is expected to recover. The second victim was uninjured.
Investigators were able to find evidence that led them to determine Torres was the alleged shooter. He was arrested on Sunday morning at around 11:30 a.m., approximately eight hours after the shooting, police said.
Torres remains behind bars in lieu of $ 1million bail.
