PALM SPRINGS (AP) — California investigators say police officers caught two men on top of an unconscious woman in a brazen daytime sex assault.

Palm Springs arrested 50-year-old Daniel Joseph Choquette and 32-year-old Eliso Jimenez Rodriguez on Tuesday afternoon and booked them for investigation of rape. Banning jail records show they are still in custody Thursday with bail set at $50,000 each.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise says officers responding to a rape in progress call found Choquette and Rodriguez on top of the woman, who was unconscious, on busy Sunrise Way. A police department news release says some of her clothing had been removed.

The woman was taken to a hospital but there's no information on her condition.
