Pedestrian struck and killed in parking lot of Lake Elsinore Diamond Stadium

A 58-year-old man was struck and killed in the parking lot of a minor league baseball stadium in Lake Elsinore early Monday.

It happened at around 10 a.m. in the parking lot outside of Lake Elsinore Diamond Stadium, located at Diamond Drive and Malaga Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived and found that a driver was traveling through the lot at an unknown rate of speed when he hit Michael Ryan of Crestline. The driver stopped to call 911 and waited for deputies to arrive.

Ryan was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries by paramedics. He succumbed to his injuries nearly six hours after arriving at Inland Valley Medical Center in nearby Wildomar.

The driver was not arrested following questioning by deputies. They say that neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash.

It's unclear why Ryan or the driver were at the stadium, as there was no scheduled event on Monday.

Anyone who knows more is asked to contact deputies at (951) 245-3300.

The Lake Elsinore Storm, minor league affiliate of the San Diego Padres, play at the Diamond throughout the course of their season. Their first home game takes place on Tuesday, April 8 at 6:05 p.m.
