Mira Loma Residents Say Big Rigs Are Causing Cancer, Other Illnesses

MIRA LOMA (CBS) — Residents say the 15,000 diesel-burning big rigs that travel to warehouses in Mira Loma every day are making them ill.

Activists, who say fumes are causing cancers and other health problems, are fighting plans for another warehouse in the Mira Loma Village neighborhood.

State Attorney General Kamala Harris recently joined a lawsuit challenging Riverside County's approval of the new warehouse plans.

"The children of that community have the worst lung development of any children in all of Southern California . . . . You can taste the pollution, literally, " said Harris.

Riverside County says it will review Harris' filing.
