May Storm To Bring Rain To Downtown LA; 1st In Over 20 Years

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — For the first time in over two decades, downtown Los Angeles is expected to get over an inch of rain in the month of May.

A wet late-season storm will bring periods of rain and even some snow in the higher altitudes starting Tuesday and through at least tomorrow, along with some onshore winds in the mountains and deserts, according to CBS2 meteorologist Josh Rubenstein.

The steady stream of moisture will flow into Southern California today with rain this morning.

We are looking at 1/2" to 1.00" of rain from this system and one more wave of moisture that will move in on Wednesday.

While this isn't a major storm system by any stretch of the imagination, the event is newsworthy simply because it is so late in the season.

Residents in the mountains can also expect to see 3" to 6" of snow above 5500'.

Winds are already kicking up and we do have wind advisories for the mountains and deserts of the viewing area.

Temperatures will run below average for the remainder of the work week except for Friday, when we may see a little bump. There is another trough on tap for late this weekend that could give us drizzle on Sunday morning.
