Man Wounded In Long Beach Officer-Involved Shooting

LONG BEACH (CBS) — A man was wounded in an officer-involved shooting, police said.

The shooting happened just before midnight Thursday in the 50 block of East 51st Street, Long Beach police said.

According to officials, the suspect, from Long Beach, was pulled over due to speeding.

"The subject pulled over and he got out of his car right away and the officer told him to stop, looked like he was going to run and at some point during that interaction, the suspect pulled out a gun," said Lt. Paul LeBaron.

The officer fired several rounds, hitting the 26-year-old suspect in the lower torso. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was listed in stable condition.

The suspect is expected to be booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer and   being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, LeBaron said.

The officer was not injured.
