Man Charged With Murdering 79-Year-Old Woman In 1987

RIVERSIDE (AP) — Authorities have arrested and charged a Hemet man with murdering a 79-year-old woman during a robbery of her mobile home nearly 25 years ago.

The Riverside County district attorney's office says 44-year-old Keith Allen Pipes was arrested Thursday after being charged with one count of murder with a special circumstance in the death of Mildred Porter.

Prosecutors say Porter was found bound and gagged in her mobile home on Jan. 20, 1987 and items including a Bulova watch and camera were missing.

Prosecutors say the cold case was re-opened in 2008 after fingerprints from the crime scene yielded a match.

Pipes is scheduled to be arraigned Monday. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
