LAPD, Feds Arrest Dozens In Alleged Oxycodone Drug Ring
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department took part in a massive series of raids on Thursday involving alleged prescription drug sales by a multi-state criminal operation.
KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reports 28 people were arrested in locations across the Greater Los Angeles area.
Drug raids target LA oxycodone sales
Over 400 federal agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in conjunction with the LAPD and the Spokane Regional Drug Task Force (SRDTF), led a large-scale enforcement action targeting a criminal organization spanning from L.A. to Eastern Washington.
Three subjects were also arrested by LAPD in a separate but related investigation.
The enforcement action stems from a 32-count federal indictment that was handed down in the Eastern District of Washington in January, which charges multiple individuals with criminal violation(s) relating to the distribution, possession and attempted possession of oxycodone hydrochloride, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
"Based on their investigation, the estimates are well in the area of $20 million in proceeds," said LAPD Lt. Andy Neiman. The United States has filed a notice of criminal forfeiture seeking a money judgment in the amount of $20 million.
Some of the individuals named in the indictment face potential mandatory minimum sentences of 20 years in prison.
Along with the LAPD, local law enforcement agencies including Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and police departments from Fontana, Glendale, Pasadena, Gardena, Rialto, Inglewood and Long Beach participated in the operation.
