Judge OKs Court-Appointed Attorney For James 'Whitey' Bulger
SANTA MONICA (CBS) — Accused murderer James "Whitey" Bulger will not have to pay for an attorney after a federal judge decided the onetime crime boss meets the requirements for a court appointed lawyer.
Bulger was led away in restraints by federal agents to a waiting helicopter after his court appearance.
He was found with more than $800,000 in cash at the time of his arrest last week in Santa Monica. But that money was confiscated by the government.
Prosecutors argued that Bulger had relatives, who could help him pay for an attorney.
