Josh Rubenstein's Forecast (January 7)

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — The cut-off low is finally making its move to the east. There is mid and upper level moisture streaming in, but the lower levels of the atmosphere are very dry.

The moisture is evaporating before it hits the ground... it's also called virga.

Some of that wet weather may actually make it to the ground through the day, but it's going to be widely scattered.

There is also some instability associated with this system so don't be surprised if you hear some thunder.

Once the low moves out we will see a shallow marine layer set up.

Temperatures will be on the cool side to start out the weekend, but by the beginning of next week things warm up a bit.

Today:

Coastal - low 60s;
Basin - low 60s;
Valleys - low 60s;
Deserts - mid 50s;
Mountains - upper 30s;
