Inmate Dies 8 Hours After Being Taken To Hospital After Falling Ill

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say they are investigating the death of an inmate who became sick while being housed at a facility in East Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the inmate was staying at the East Los Angeles Station jail after being arrested.

The inmate had been taken into custody on suspicion of possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.

The inmate was taken to a hospital Saturday morning, where authorities say he died eight hours later.

An exact cause of death was not known, and is expected to be determined by the coroner.
