1 dead, 3 hospitalized in Huntington Beach multi-car crash

One person was killed and three others, including a pair of Orange County probation officers, were injured in a multi-car crash in Huntington Beach on Tuesday afternoon.

The collision happened just before 3 p.m. at the intersection of Heil Avenue and Goldenwest Street, the Huntington Beach Police Department told CBS Los Angeles.

Based on their preliminary investigation, officers believe the driver of a gray Tesla Model 3 sped through the intersection, lost control and collided with several vehicles. Debris from the crash also struck several other vehicles. In total, investigators believe at least seven cars, including the suspect's, were involved in the crash.

Dashcam video shows the gray sedan hurtling through the intersection before colliding with another Tesla.

The suspect's car rolled over several times and came to a rest about 150 yards away from the intersection. Officers pronounced the 37-year-old man dead at the scene. They have not identified the driver as of Tuesday.

Three other people were hospitalized in stable condition.

The Orange County Probation Department said that one of their vehicles was involved in the crash, and that two probation officers were injured. One officer was taken to the hospital for further medical care, the department said.

Detectives could not immediately determine if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the deadly collision. Huntington Beach PD asked anyone with information on the case to contact Investigator S. Flynn at (714) 536-5666
