Hop On The Heart Bus And Get Heart Healthy!

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Heart Month is a great time to take stock in your cardiovascular health and find ways to be more proactive about your preventive health.

James Ekbatani, Healthfair founder/CEO, and John Davies, a 56-year-old opera singer/heart patient, stopped by the KCAL9 studios Monday to talk about heart health and share information about the Heart Bus.

The Heart Bus is traveling around the Southland, providing mobile health screenings for heart attack, stroke and aneurysm to communities, making proactive cardiovascular health both convenient and affordable.

The bus offers Echocardiograms, a 12-Lead EKG, Carotid Artery Ultrasounds, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Ultrasounds, Ankle Brachial Index and an Arterial Stiffness Index. In addition, it offers a variety of blood tests with a simple finger stick.

All 6 tests cost $179, a savings of more than $2,300 if done in a physician's office:

Echocardiogram
• accurate and non-invasive
• measures size and strength of contractions, valve function, and fluids around the heart
Electrocardiogram
• provides a picture of the electrical activity responsible for the heart's cycle of contraction and relaxation
• detects heartbeat irregularity and heart enlargement
Arterial Stiffness Index
• measures the hardening of the arteries, a common cause of heart disease
Carotid Ultrasound
• detailed and pain-free method of analyzing blood flow
• detects the risk of stroke by revealing amount of arterial plaque
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening
• identifies abnormal swelling or dilation of blood vessels that could lead to development of dangerous aneurysms
• detects any existing aneurysms.
Ankle-Brachial Index
• detects peripheral artery disease
• identifies the presence of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), a major risk factor for heart attacks.
