Father Shot And Killed In Front Of Young Son In South LA
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a man in South Los Angeles.
Manuel Triana Lara, 52, was shot and killed in front of his young son in the 500 block of West 84th Street around 8: 45 p.m. Sunday, police said.
Lara was jump-starting a car when an unknown suspect approached him and fired multiple times, said LAPD Commander Andrew Smith.
LAPD Detective Chris Barling suspects the killer may have planned on robbing Lara.
Lara's five-year-old son saw the whole thing.
"My little brother witnessed pretty much everything," said the victim's older son, also named Manuel Lara.
"My brother said that my dad said to the guy, `Please don't, my friend, please don't,"' Lara said.
Those were his father's last words. Lara died while being transported to the hospital.
"I just can't believe someone would do something like that. How can you steal a life like that?" Lara asked. "If you saw anything, please bring this person to justice."
