Dodgers Give Free Tickets To Military Members During Month Of May
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Hall of Fame Manager and Army veteran Tommy Lasorda extends an offer to all military members to thank them for their service by offering free Dodgers tickets during the month of May.
During the 2010 season, the Dodgers donated approximately 5,000 tickets to the armed services, to groups including: California Department of Veteran Affairs; United States Navy Port Hueneme; and Los Angeles Air Force Base. Twenty-five children from the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos attended the Dodgers' Annual Children's Holiday Party last December. The children each have a parent in the 1-140 Aviation Battalion, which is currently deployed in Iraq.
Starting last year, the Dodgers honored a Veteran of the Game at every home game and treated them to Field Level tickets and a batting practice experience, as well as recognizing them on the field during pregame ceremonies. This season's honorees so far have included: a member of the Tuskegee Airmen; a Navy Seabee Combat War Specialist; a Military Police Officer serving in the "Honor Guard" protecting the President of the United States; and a third generation combat veteran in his 17th year of military service who has recently returned from Iraq.
To redeem, members of the joint services with a valid military ID -- including active, reserve and retired veterans as well as their dependents -- can show their military ID at any Dodger Stadium ticket booth day of game. Each military ID will be good for two complimentary tickets, based on availability.
