Cold Winter Storm Will Bring Rain, Snow To Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A cold winter storm packing rain, snow and wind is heading to the Southland Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

"The rain will get heavy at times, especially overnight Friday," weather specialist Stuart Seto of the National Weather Service said.

"This is ahead of the front. Once the front comes in, we will get cold air and rain, which means thunderstorms."

Seto said the Grapevine will see snow behind the front, and overnight in the mountains he expects gusty winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, possibly "making visibility zero at times."

Snow levels will rise to nearly 5,000 feet Friday before dropping down to 1,000 feet by Saturday morning, CBS2 Chief Meteorologist Josh Rubenstein said.

Accumulation will be above 2000 feet, but some cities in the foothills of the San Fernando Valley, and the San Gabriel Valley could see non-accumulating flurries.

"Take this storm very seriously," Seto said. "We will have some very cold temperatures. With wind and moisture in the air it can really get chilly."

Cold winter conditions are expected through Wednesday while the storm is expected to last through Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.
