Chance of scattered showers before weaker system develops early next week
Another storm is making its way south from the Central Coast, increasing the possibility of scattered showers in Southern California.
The National Weather Service said a cold air mass will bring light to moderate rain and snow.
KCAL News Meteorologist Amber Lee reported that rain is expected in Los Angeles between 9 a.m. and the early afternoon. Forecasters predict rainfall rates will be between .10 and .25 inches per hour.
Lee explained that since Oct. 1, the downtown LA area has received 7.58 inches of rain, which is well below the normal amount, which is usually 11.96 inches for this time of year. The annual average for the rainy season is usually around 14.25 inches of rain.
No thunderstorms are expected during this rain event and winds are also supposed to be weaker than the last system. As of Friday morning, the NWS said the snow level is around 2,500 feet. A winter weather advisory remains in effect for higher mountain areas in southwest California.
A warming trend will develop once the storm moves out. Conditions will be dry over the weekend with temperatures increasing.
Weather officials said another weaker storm will be over Southern California early next week between Monday and Tuesday.
