Camp Pendleton Fire Briefly Shuts Down 5 Freeway

CAMP PENDLETON (AP) — Authorities say smoke from a wildfire on Camp Pendleton led to the brief closure of lanes on Interstate 5.

A California High Patrol dispatcher tells City News Service the blaze was reported on the Marine base just after 2:40 p.m. Saturday.

Two of the highway's lanes were shut down near the Las Pulgas Road exit because smoke was blowing across the road, but all lanes were reopened in less than an hour.

The dispatcher did not know the size of the fire, but said Camp Pendleton firefighters are fighting it without help from San Diego County crews.
