Man Suspected In Attempted Killing Arrested In Long Beach

APPLE VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A 53-year-old man was in custody Thursday on suspicion of shooting at a business earlier this week.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Jose Leon Pinella III of Phelan was located just before 5 p.m. Tuesday in an underground parking structure in Long Beach.

He was taken into custody without incident and was transported to Apple Valley, where he was interviewed, officers said.

Police explained Pinella is accused of forcefully entering a locked business in the 21500 block of Bear Valley Road and firing four to five shots.

According to authorities, he used the butt of his gun to gain entry to the business shortly before 8 p.m.

A male victim was struck once in the shoulder and was flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. A woman and another male were unharmed in the crime, officers said.

Pinella proceeded to then leave the scene in a 2012 silver Honda Civic and dumped the shotgun beneath a car in the parking lot of the business, authorities said.

Pinella had been dating the woman at the business; however, he had found out that she was seeing someone new, officials said.

He is being held on $1 million at the High Desert Detention Center.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to contact detectives at (760) 240-7400, Ext. 7418.
