$50,000 To Attend USC? Tuition Hikes Set To Make University Among Nation's Priciest

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — For some, it's a yearly salary. For USC students, it's just one more year in tuition costs.

The home of Tommy Trojan is expected to surpass the $50,000 tuition price tag for the 2016-17 academic year, which could make the school among the most expensive university campuses in the U.S., according to the Los Angeles Times.

New figures released by USC show tuition for the upcoming school year will reportedly cost $51,442 - nearly $2,000 more what students are currently paying - and $841 more in fees.

That would catapult the cost of attending USC significantly higher than Stanford University (around $45,000) and Yale (nearly $48,000) - two of the nation's most prestigious universities.

That's compared with the roughly $6,000 in tuition and fees Cal State University students will pay in 2016.

Officials estimated after adding in the average costs for living expenses and books, it'll cost students nearly $70,000 to spend one year at USC.

In a statement to CBSLA, USC Provost Michael Quick said: "Tuition increases at USC using 5-year averages are at their lowest in 50 years - over the last five years tuition has increased an average of 4 perent annually. The University has made great strides in limiting the tuition increases to maintain affordability, while increasing services to students."
