2 Of 9 Soldiers Killed When Truck Overturns At Fort Hood Were From SoCal

FORT HOOD, Texas (CBSLA.com) — Two of nine soldiers killed after getting trapped in a flooded creek at Fort Hood were identified Sunday as natives of Southern California.

A verified Facebook page for III Corps and Fort Hood identified the Southern Californians as Spc. Christine Faith Armstrong, 27, of Twentynine Palms and Spc. Yingming Sun, 25, of Monterey Park.

They were among the nine killed when a truck overturned in the rain-swollen Owl Creek Thursday. They had been on a routine training mission.

The other soldiers killed were identified as Staff Sgt. Miguel Angel Colonvazquez, Pfc. Brandon Austin Banner, Pfc. Zachery Nathaniel Fuller, Pvt. Isaac Lee Deleon, Pvt. Eddy Raelaurin Gates,
Pvt. Tysheena Lynette James, and Cadet Mitchell Alexander Winey, according to the Associated Press.

Armstrong entered active-duty in Feb. 2014, while Yingming Sun entered active-duty in Oct. 2013.

The accident left three other soldiers injured and remains under investigation.
