Celebrity Attorney Representing Alleged Victim In Case Against Former Teacher

MODESTO (CBS13) – A celebrity attorney was in a Modesto courtroom Tuesday morning bringing even more media attention to a story that has already garnered national headlines.

Attorney Gloria Allred is representing the alleged victim in the case against 41-year-old James Hooker. Hooker is the former Enochs High School teacher who made news earlier this year when he left his wife and children to move-in with Powers shortly after her 18th birthday.

While Powers has joined Hooker in his previous court hearings, the teenager was not at today's hearing.

Powers is facing felony sex assault charges filed by another former student who claimed he assaulted her 14 years ago.
