Actor Andy Griffith Dead At 86
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Television icon Andy Griffith is dead at the age of 86, a friend confirmed to CBS News.
Griffith died at his home in Manteo, North Carolina Tuesday morning, according to the celebrity news website TMZ.
Griffith became famous for the "The Andy Griffith Show" which ran from 1960 to 1968. He also starred in "Mayberry R.F.D.," "Matlock," and several other television shows.
He made his film debut in 1957 in A Face in the Crowd.
Griffith was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by US President George W. Bush on November 9, 2005.
