Wife Of Iraqi Native "Relieved" Shooting Suspect Caught

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The family of Ahmed Al-Jumaili on Friday night for the first time rested easy knowing someone was finally arrested in connection with his death.

Dallas Police announced the arrest of Nykerion Nealon, 17, Friday morning and accused him of shooting Al-Jumaili March 4th while the Iraqi native was taking pictures of his first snowfall.

"I'm very shocked because I just seen him yesterday," said Victor Reese, a neighbor of the suspect.

No one answered the door at Nealon's listed address in North Dallas. His apartment complex was just across street from where Al-Jumaili was killed at his apartment complex.

"To me he was quiet, kind of shy somewhat. He never speaks," said Reese.

Reese said he often say Nealon late at night, loudly going up and down the stairs. He said he never saw a gun but Reese said the reality of what Nealon is accused of is setting into his head.

"It's like wow really? Because he could have shot me, I'm just saying," said Reese.

Al-Jumaili's widow Zahraa Altaie was too emotional to speak Friday night.

She released this statement:

"This news of the suspect being caught will not bring back my beautiful Ahmed but it gives me some relief and I feel better knowing that this guy is in custody and justice is on its way. I also would like to thank the Dallas Police Department and all the people who helped our family in these last several days. We are so grateful for all the love and support from people all over the world who heard of Ahmed's story and have reached out to us to share in our sadness. Today we share with everyone our hope and relief that Ahmed's killer will face justice."

Why Al-Jumaili was shot remains a mystery to both police and those who knew the suspect.

"I just never knew he would do that," said Reese.

Investigators said they believe there were three other people with Nealon during the shooting. No other arrests have been made by police.
