Want-To-Be DPD Recruits Will Have To Be Patient

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas Police Department Chief David Brown recently advised protestors to become a part of the solution to a problem. But the deadly police ambush last week and subsequent funerals this week has forced DPD to postpone some recruiting.
Monthly testing for new recruits was scheduled to begin today. But, except for a few applicants who came from out of town, the department had to ask people eager to join the department to reschedule for another time.
On the DPD website, next to the July 14-16 testing dates, it says:
"Due to the recent tragic events, we are asking applicants to re-schedule."
During a press conference on the Monday after the deadly shootings Chief Brown was asked what advice he would give protestors. "Become a part of the solution," he said. "Serve your communities. Don't be a part of the problem. We're hiring. We're hiring. Get off that protest line and put an application in. And we will put you in your neighborhood and we will help you resolve some of the problems you're protesting about."
Apparently a lot of people are responding to that prompt and are stepping up, hoping to become a member of the 2nd largest police department in the State of Texas.
Dallas Police Detective Karen Lewis said while DPD recruit testing has been put on hold, the request from Chief Brown to apply still stands. "Come on out," she said and then questioned potential cadets. "Are you sure you want to do this? Because we're hiring. Chief Brown said we are hiring and we need some good officers to come out."
