ALEDO (CBSDFW.COM) - There was an emotional gathering of family, friends and teammates in Aledo on Tuesday night to remember the life of a teen who collapsed and died after basketball practice.

Trenten Darton, 15, suffered what is said to be a "medical crisis."

Dozens of his closest friends painted a mural with Trenten's name and jersey number outside a community church.
His mother watched from the side of the road.

"I just really love all these boys like they were my own," said Johnita Darton, Trenten's mother. "I'm just really sad about my son, his sudden passing is just a lot to adjust to in such a short period of time."

Johnita remembers a kind soul, a smiling face who always tried to include other kids. What Johnita and her family still having trouble coping with is why Trenten was taken so soon.

"I don't know what happened, I couldn't tell you. As far as we know, he was able and it's just one of them things," said Eddie Darton Sr., Trenton's grandfather.

Aledo ISD and the athletic department requires athletes to pass a physical exam and include their medical history before tryouts.

The medical examiner is still investigating exactly what went wrong.

"I look at it that he's in a much better place than here," said Eddie Darton.

Johnita is just grateful for a community that has wrapped its arms around her when she has needed it the most.

"He was loved and it will be hard," said Johnita Darton.
