22-Year Veteran Of Grand Prairie Police Department Dies From COVID-19 Complications

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - The Grand Prairie Police Department announced one of its officers died Monday morning, Oct. 18 due to complications from COVID-19.

Officer Andy MacDonald, 46, served the Grand Prairie community since 1999, the department said.

"We will never forget," Grand Prairie Police said on Twitter.

"He was passionate about the community and served in our Community Services Division," the department said in an email.

Officer MacDonald also served in Patrol, Special Weapons and Tactics Team.

"The men and women of the Grand Prairie Police Department are hurting and still trying to process how we lost our brother so quickly. I have no doubt Andy is patrolling the streets of heaven as we speak," said Grand Prairie Police Chief Daniel Scesney in a statement.

Officer MacDonald is survived by his wife.

Grand Prairie Police tweeted on Tuesday, "In lieu of flowers, the family of fallen Grand Prairie Police Officer Andy MacDonald has graciously requested donations to support Prairie Paws. Andy had a compassionate heart for animals and owned several rescues as pets."

 

His funeral is Friday, October 22 and is open only to law enforcement and family and friends.
