Time's Best U.S. Cities For Barbecue

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - What do you look for when it comes to good barbecue?

Time Magazine wanted to find the best American cities for barbecue, and they turned to Michael Smith for help. "Look for dives that have been around for a while," he told the magazine. "You can trust them for the best barbecue -- because no one is going there for the atmosphere."

Readers ranked the barbecue in nearly 40 locations as part of this year's America's Favorite Cities survey, and the folks at Time Magazine have now released their list of the 20 best places.

Spoiler Alert: Dallas does not take the top spot, although it is on the list, along with several other Texas cities. Dallas ranks at No. 7 with Houston at No. 4 and Austin at No. 3.
