Rockwall's Blase Family Farm, Where Blueberries Blossom

Follow CBSDFW.COM: Facebook | Twitter

A farm boy and a city girl put down roots in Rockwall and created a farm in the midst of brick and concrete.

The Blase family home looks like any beautiful house in the suburbs, until you see the tractor in the garage.

A tour of the 17-acre farm shows off their prized blueberry bushes and offers a few minutes to disconnect from regular life.

Chris Blase is the brains of the farm and the head of the family.

In 2007, they bought their acres just to build a house, but the farm boy in Chris couldn't leave the land be. After research they decided: blueberries in the summer and in the fall they'll bring in pumpkins. And in a Texas summer taking care of those berries is a lot of work.

Wife Jill and their teen children Brandon and Emily are the rest of the Blases. Chris may be the brains...but Jill is the smiling face.

As for the kids, they do learn a thing or two in between camping with friends.

This is the first year Blase Family Farm grew enough berries to open picking to the general public.

Chris works full time for Daisy Brand, so is still in the dairy business of his youth. He calls the farm his therapy.
