Rangers Reach Deal With Lance Berkman

ARLINGTON (CBS SPORTS) - Free agent Lance Berkman has a deal with the Texas Rangers, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the contract is for one year and is in the $10 million range.

Berkman will turn 37 years old next month, and the odds are pretty good that this would be his final contract as a major leaguer. If so, it's fitting he ends in the state of Texas. Berkman was born in Waco, went to Canyon High School in New Braunfels, and attended Rice University in Houston before spending his first 11 1/2 big league seasons with the Houston Astros.

Berkman hit .259/.381/.444 with two homers and seven RBI in an injury-riddled campaign last season for St. Louis, as he only had 97 plate appearances. In 2011, Berkman finished seventh in NL MVP voting when he hit .301/.412/.547 with 31 homers, 94 RBI and 90 runs. He also won his first World Series ring in 2011 with the Cardinals.
