Police Release Car Of Frisco Mom Accused Of Murder

FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Frisco police have apparently relented and are giving a woman accused of the first-degree murder of her 10-year-old son her car back.

Attorney David Finn says the family of Pallavi Dhawan is at the Frisco Police Department.

"The judge ordered them to give it [the car] back and we made arrangements to make it happen as we speak. It's happening right now."

The car has been at the center of several court hearings. In addition to the car, police had also seized a number of the family's possessions.

Finn says he filed motions and made several court requests. "Initially it was to get the medical records regarding Arnav. Secondly, it was personal belongings like a scooter and a backpack. We won those too. And then the judge said 'give them the car back.'"

Police have been holding the Lexus since January of this year, when 10-year old Arnav Dhawan was found dead inside the family home. The child had been wrapped in a cloth and placed in a dry bathtub, with ice packs.

Police claimed the vehicle was part of their murder investigation. The vehicle has been at a crime lab. Finn said he expects the car to be in working order one turned over to the Dhawan family. "The judge made it clear. He said, 'give it to them in the same condition that you took it.'"

While police arrested Pallavi Dhawan for murder, formal charges have never been filed. In fact, Finn says the investigation has never even been sent to the Collin County District Attorney's Office. The family claims the boy died of natural causes from a pre-existing medical condition.
