AUSTIN, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - University of Texas police took a man into custody for flying a drone over Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial stadium Saturday night during the Longhorns home opener against UNT.
According to reports, the drone was spotted during the second half of the game hovering high above the field.
Police say they located the operator on San Jacinto, and unidentified UT student, and ordered him to land the aircraft.
The student was taken into custody, questioned and later released. The drone was confiscated.
Texas state law requires drone pilots to have permission from property owners to shoot aerial images of their property.
According to UT police, the student could face charges and additional fines of up to $1,000 per image taken.
