Patriotic Partiers Celebrate Texas-Style Across Counties
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Event producers for the "Fort Worth Fourth" said it will showcase the "largest Fourth of July fireworks show" in North Texas.
Food vendors, various booths, tubing, and jet ski exhibitions led up to the big fireworks, which starts at 10 p.m.
Though the party didn't officially kick off with the gates opening at 2 p.m., many people nonetheless scurried in early to stake out prime viewing positions on the river bank. Some with blankets, and other such as Iresa Hall, her daughter and grandson set up tent shelters.
"Every year we look for the best fireworks," Hall told CBS 11 News. "So we go around Addison and Dallas and Fort Worth and you name it -- Frisco --to find the best fireworks." Hall said she believes that the gunpowder-light show, matched with music, makes the best way to stir feelings of patriotism.
Across town, music was the reason to gather for the Willie Nelson 2014 Picnic. Thirteen bands started entertaining at noon and are scheduled to play until midnight. Willie Nelson will play a set or two for guests.
A couple of Dallas residents played some catch between acts. Kyle Brown and Sean Miller were at Willie's bash to celebrate Brown's upcoming birthday on Sunday. "Yeah, you know, you've just got to pick the best atmosphere and we've picked it here," said Brown.
"It's just the atmosphere, man," echoed Miller, "It's the music and the country side of things and people watching is just the best part of it."
