Open Carry Members Asked Not To Carry Rifles In Private Businesses

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Open carry gun groups are changing tactics after metaphorically shooting themselves in the foot.

Chipotle, Jack In The Box, Starbucks, Applebees and Wendy's, have all banned guns from their stores after open carry supporters brought weapons inside. The actions of the groups led to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) sending messages to all TABC licensees warning them about allowing group members to open carry in their businesses.

Open Carry Texas and three other groups have sent a letter to their members asking them not to take long guns into corporate businesses anymore -- unless they are invited.

One statement in the letter said -

"Looking back, it has become clear that there is one area in which we have gotten the most resistance and suffered the largest setbacks: open carry of long arms into private businesses."

The letter suggests that members perhaps switch to carrying Black Powder revolvers, which they say "have proven to be very effective and align with our
goal."

The groups are also asking people not to post pictures of themselves with guns in businesses. Members were also told not to hold long guns, but to carry them on a sling.

The groups believe the changes will put the focus back on their mission -- which is to get open carry of handguns passed in Texas.
