North Texas Firefighter Adopts Puppy After Storm Drain Rescue
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) — Dallas Firefighter Ryan Snow says he had no idea one particular call this week would have such an impact on him.
Snow, along with Dallas Fire Rescue firefighters from Station 5 in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood were called out to the 10300 block of Limestone Road on reports of a trapped animal.
Once they arrived at the scene Snow said they found a whimpering dog, stuck deep inside a storm drain. "It just wore my heart strings when I saw the dog," he said about the moment they discovered the black lab mix.
Rue, as Snow now calls her was found with broken front legs, and badly damaged elbows. Once she was finally pulled from the drain Snow took it upon himself to find her proper medical care.
Operation Kindness in Carrollton answered the call and provided the surgery Rue needed to repair her damaged limbs.
On Friday, just hours after her surgery was over her hero was waiting for her at the Operation Kindness shelter ready to adopt her. He had gone back for Rue; because according to him he wasn't going to let the bond they formed go
"I felt like I had to do something for the dog."
That, he did. Once Rue is healed and ready to go she will go to her forever home alongside her hero.
In the meantime, Snow says he plans on visiting his new puppy at the shelter in between shifts at the firehouse.
Giving the dog a big hug on Friday he said, "I just feel pretty blessed that she found me."
