McKinney Restaurateur Wants City To Back Off
MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - A business owner in McKinney is taking the city to court on Tuesday, accusing code enforcement officers, police officers and fire officials of harrassment and intimidation. Hank's Texas Grill has a great location -- right at the corner of North Central Expressway and White Avenue. It has been there for 10 years. But the restaurant could soon be forced to shut down.
Restaurant owner Ron Reynolds claims that authorities have visited his business hundreds of times. He received a letter from the City of McKinney alleging 80 code violations. The city is demanding that he fix all of those items within a month, or else his restaurant will be closed. Among the code violations are: lack of required emergency systems and lighting, fading paint stripes in the parking lot, beer banners and animal heads that have not been sprayed with fire retardant.
Reynolds has said that this is all just pure intimidation after he accused a police officer of improper conduct inside of his restaurant a few years ago. However, the city has said that the violations create a danger to the public.
Reynolds currently has a temporary restraining order against the city. He is now asking a judge to issue a permanent injunction. That hearing is set to begin on Tuesday.
