FLOWER MOUND(CBS11) - The Memorial Day holiday weekend began with a heavy downpour at Lake Grapevine.

Sam Lecomte says, "It's the last thing I wanted to see."

But all of the rain won't change his tune. He just opened his new restaurant, Rockin S Bar & Grill at Twin Coves Marina along the lake last weekend, and he's staying upbeat. "We've got bands tonight. We'll still have a good turnout. Even though the water is rising, the party is rising at Rockin S."

Because of all the rain, rising water has swallowed parking lots at this and other marinas at Lake Grapevine.

All boat ramps are closed.

But those who operate the marinas along Lake Grapevine say they're open and ready to welcome visitors expecting to have a good time out on the water. The high water though is disappointing those who frequent the parks around the lake.

After discovering the picnic area at Murrell Park is flooded, all Patty Giner could do was shake her head in astonishment. "Unbelievable, unbelievable."

Giner and her husband say the high water is sinking their weekend plans. "This is where we come on the weekend with our boys, our dog, we throw the football around, we hang out here, we have our picnic, we can't do that this weekend."

On Friday, Lake Grapevine rose to 16 feet above conservation pool. As a result, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is releasing 640 cubic feet of water per second.

It's all part of a delicate balance.  They don't want the lake to get too high, but they also want to prevent flooding downstream.

Back at Rockin S Bar and Grill, owner Sam Lecomte says he will deal with whatever the weather brings. "I want everyone to come out and deal with it with me. I mean have fun, it's Memorial Day."
