DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas police have arrested a man they say beat his dog to death.

They arrived to an apartment off Wheeler Street near Love Field to find Thyren Justus, 35, crying, claiming his dog was dead.

The neighbor who made the call to police said they heard barking, crying, loud banging and stomping on the ground coming from the apartment after Justus got back from the Saint Patrick's Day Parade on Greenville Ave.

Police said the dog was wet and suffering from multiple injuries, and appeared to have massive head wounds when they entered the apartment.

Justus was arrested and charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal-torture.

In a statement Justus' lawyer urged the public not to rush to judgement.
