Knox-Henderson Hit & Run Caught On Tape

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An Austin woman visiting Dallas was struck by a hit and run driver while walking in a crosswalk on Henderson Avenue last Friday night.  Surveillance video taken by a camera mounted at one of the nearby businesses captured the incident.

Selena Christian, 33, says she and her boyfriend started to cross the street.   "I said, no, let's use the crosswalk" says Christian.

The video shows how Christian took a few steps into the marked crosswalk when a Chevrolet Tahoe hits her and dragged her about 20 feet.  Christian's boyfriend, Carson Choate, estimates the Tahoe was traveling 35 to 40 miles per hour.

"I look up and I see that she's about to get hit and I couldn't stop it" says Choate.

"I was asking him what happened, what's going on?" says Christian.  She adds "He said you were hit by a car and I couldn't believe it".

The Tahoe brakes momentarily and then it is seen turning the wheels to go around the victim, laying on the ground, and flees.

According to witnesses, a number of people chased the Tahoe on foot, and they were able to get the license plate number of the vehicle.  Texas License plate number KZV 971.   Dallas Police detectives are looking for the vehicle and they say a number of witnesses saw the driver.  If arrested he could be charged with Failing to Stop and Render Aid.  Police say, if convicted, it carries a possible prison sentence of from two to  10 years and $10,000 fine.

Christian is a single mother of five children and she lives in Austin.  She says this is only her second visit to Dallas.  "It would make me feel a lot safer out there and better if they could bring him to justice, find him and make him accountable for doing this" she says.
