Kennedale Teacher's Husband Standing By Her Side

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The husband of a Kennedale school teacher caught in the middle of a sex scandal broke his silence Thursday afternoon.

English teacher Brittni Colleps, 27, is accused of having sex with five of her students.

Regardless of the accusations, her husband is choosing to stand by her side.

"I want you to know I love my wife. I have loved my wife since the moment I laid eyes on her over 11 years ago," said Army Specialist Fourth Class Christopher Colleps. "I have always supported my wife, and I will continue to support my wife through this whole, entire ordeal."

Brittni Colleps was placed on paid administrative leave last week, after rumors surfaced that she had sex with five male students at her Arlington home.

All of the students were over the age of the 18, but in the state of Texas, it is still a crime for a teacher to have an improper relationship with a student, regardless of age.

Even though she was arrested, and has bonded out of jail, no charges have been filed yet.

"I'm sure the Arlington Police Department will forward the police reports to the District Attorney," said her defense attorney Lex Johnston, "and the District Attorney will file a case, or five cases against Brittni Colleps."

Specialist Colleps is stationed in Fort Polk, Lousiana. Neither he nor the couple's three children were home when the incidents reportedly happened. He's making it clear, he's here for her now.

"If you know Brittni you know she is an empathic, compassionate, loving, loyal person," he said, "Brittni is a loving mother who always puts the needs of our children above her own."

"They're just like all of us, they see the newspapers, they see the TV, they hear other people talking about him," Johnston said of what Specialist Colleps and his family are going through. "People are badmouthing him and he wants to show people that she is being supported."

Even if charged and convicted, Colleps would not have to register as a sex offender because all of the students were over the age of 18.

The mother of one of the alleged victim's told CBS 11, she does not wish to see Colleps go to jail.
