Johnson County Heaps Kudos On Off-Duty Deputy For Preventing Possible Suicide

JOHNSON COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - An off-duty Johnson County deputy was on his way home from work early Sunday morning when he sprung into action to help a troubled young woman.

Deputy Adam Richards noticed the woman standing on the Hidden Creek bridge over Interstate 35 shortly before 3:00 a.m.

He dialed 911 and asked for help from the Burleson Police Department.

The 20-year-old woman told him she had just broken up with her boyfriend.

Deputy Richards was engaging the woman in conversation and quickly realized her intent according to Johnson County Sheriff's Training Coordinator, Anna Goodloe, Ph. D. Goodloe explains:

"Deputy Richards and Burleson Officer Byrom were able to move her from the bridge to a safer location. After speaking with the young female, she reluctantly told officers that she liked the view from that particular bridge and had been standing there contemplating jumping to her death.

It would have been easy for Deputy Richards to drive on past the situation and the female, or to merely call and report it. If Deputy Richards had not taken his time to stop and make contact with the female, the outcome could have been much different.

Kudos to Deputy Richards and the Burleson Police Department for their professionalism and dedication to duty."
